I don't feel full?
Duke's post op diet is 2oz of liquid every 15 minutes you every hour you are awake. 2oz of high protein liquid at the top of the hour then 2oz of water or crystal light, plain decaff coffee/tea etc at :15, :30, and :45.
The first few days as expected that was hard, now it is no issue and if I still feel thirsty or hungry the last couple days I have had more in the hour, but even when I go to 10 or 12 oz I don't feel full.
Now I had heard that post surgery and fully recovered one can only eat about a cup of food so well I am curious how much folks truely eat and how often going forward.
Thanks
Liz
Your nerves have been cut during surgery!! It will take quite a bit of time for them to heal!!
I did not start getting the full sensation till probably 5 months out!! That is why they want you to measure your food!!
I do not personally measure my food now, as I am 9 months post op, but I have had enough time to know what my limits are and I normally get it right!! One thing i do at EVERY meal is use a salad plate or saucer!! Sometimes I can eat everything on my plate and sometimes I can't!! But I totally can feel when I am full and now I do not even go for just one more bite!! When I get that hard as a rock sensation in my stomach, I am DONE!!! But I would say I probably eat between 3/4 of a cup to 1 1/4 cup of food per sitting!!! It really depends on what you eat!!
Anyways, CONGRATS on your new journey!! Best of luck to you!! JAMI
Hi Liz,
I had the same issue and as you might notice, I too had my surgery at Duke. The good news is that this will get much better when you switch over to your soft food diet. To be honest, apparenty most folks don't feel any hunger, but there are a few of us who do. Right now, all that you are consuming is going right through your pouch because it's all liquid. It will be important when you start the soft food stage of your diet to observe the no liquids 30 mins before, during and after your meal, because it will allow the protien that you do put in your pouch to stay put and will give you that feeling of fullness and satisfaction that comes with it.
It will get better.
I hope to see you at one of the support group meeting held a Duke.
All the best,
Barbara
